For 2015, It's What's Inside That Counts - By Nancy Trejos
Washington Post Staff Writer Saturday, August 11, 2007; Page F01
The average family may be smaller than it was 10 years ago, but the average single-family house is larger -- and more luxurious. It has more bathrooms, higher ceilings, more elaborate master bedrooms, and bigger kitchens and outdoor space.
So what will the average home look like in the next decade?
More than 300 architects, designers, manufacturers and marketing experts interviewed by phone or surveyed by the National Association of Home Builders last year predicted that the average U.S. home in 2015 will not be any bigger. What it will be, they said, is much more luxurious.

Search habits 'precursor of sales trends' - 30 July 2007
Consumer search habits offer an indication of future sales trends, it has been claimed.
Bill Tancer, general manager of global research at internet analyst Hitwise, suggests that popularity for a particular search term frequently precedes a boost in sales for an associated brand.
His comments come in response to figures which show that while the Nintendo Wii is currently increasing its share of the market faster than the Xbox 360, the latter console is receiving the most online search interest.
Mr Tancer explains: "We often find that internet searches are a leading indicator and can be predictive of future sales growth."
He adds that demand for a price drop and hype for new games are two key elements driving the interest in searching for games consoles online.

FTC Issues Staff Report on Broadband Connectivity Competition Policy
Report Urges Caution on Network Neutrality Regulation
The Federal Trade Commission’s Internet Access Task Force today issued a report, “Broadband Connectivity Competition Policy,” which summarizes the Task Force’s findings in the area of broadband Internet connectivity and, in particular, so-called network neutrality regulation. Based on these findings, and FTC staff’s experience with the operation of myriad markets throughout the economy, the report identifies guiding principles that policy makers should consider in evaluating proposed regulations or legislation relating to broadband Internet access and network neutrality. According to Chairman Deborah Platt Majoras, “This report recommends that policy makers proceed with caution in the evolving, dynamic industry of broadband Internet access, which generally is moving toward more – not less – competition. In the absence of significant market failure or demonstrated consumer harm, policy makers should be particularly hesitant to enact new regulation in this area.”
